Southern California Singletrack Summit 2025: Building Trails, Partnerships, and Momentum

From August 8 – 10, 2025, trailbuilders, recreation leaders, and outdoor enthusiasts gathered in Big Bear Lake for the Southern California Singletrack Summit – a weekend dedicated to advancing sustainable trail systems, strengthening partnerships, and fostering a thriving outdoor community.

Co-hosted by the Southern California Mountains Foundation’s Big Bear Trails Program and the California Mountain Biking Coalition, along with other regional and national organizations, the summit brought together a diverse group of participants from across the state. Representatives from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA), the Trails Advisory Group, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) joined local volunteers, advocates, and land managers to collaborate on solutions and celebrate progress.

Event Highlights

  • Trail Work Showcase: Attendees toured the newly built Maple Hills Trailsystem, Big Bear’s latest singletrack additions, while discussing best practices in trail construction, maintenance, and user experience.

  • Evening Mixer at Barrel 33: A relaxed networking night brought attendees together over food and drinks, with Barrel 33 donating proceeds to support Big Bear Trails.

  • Inspiring Presentations: Speakers from CAMTB, USFS, and other key partners shared insights on trail stewardship, recreation equity, and the future of sustainable recreation in Southern California.

  • Community Bike Ride: Participants explored local trails  together on a cross country group ride downhill through Big Bear Mountain Resorts mountain bike park. Thank you to everyone who rode and made the closing to the weekend so fun!

A Collaborative Success

The summit was more than an event – it was a catalyst for action. Conversations sparked during workshops and trail tours are already leading to new collaborations between agencies, nonprofits, and volunteer groups. By combining expertise, resources, and community enthusiasm, the Singletrack Summit reinforced that Southern California’s trail network can be both sustainable and accessible to all.

Looking Ahead

With the success of this year’s summit, planning is already underway for 2026. The energy, connections, and shared vision that came out of this event ensure that momentum will continue – on the trails and in the community.

A heartfelt thank-you goes to everyone who attended, supported, and contributed to the weekend, especially our volunteers, presenters, and partners who make this work possible.

Stay tuned for updates on next year’s Southern California Singletrack Summit – and in the meantime, keep those wheels (and conversations) rolling!

A big thanks to Visit Big Bear for sponsoring Singletrack 2025 and making this exciting weekend possible.
