On the Right Trail

On the Right Trail teaches children how to use trails safely and responsibly, whether off roading with family or hiking. Kids will steer their radio controlled car on a dirt trail with obstacles, learning trail ethics. Free!

Join the Discovery Center for an educational and entertaining evening program to teach visitors about the San Bernardino National Forest. Programs range from Campfires and Sing-Alongs to informational Ranger Talks. Sponsored by California Land Management. Suggested donation $5. Your donations help keep our programs free!

Baldwin Lake Ecological Reserve

Baldwin Lake Ecological Reserve is a wonderful spot for wildflower viewing! Stop by and get information about what's in bloom and a chance to see the amazing pebble plain flowers found only in the Big Bear Valley. The visitor information center is staffed with volunteers and open in partnership with the Southern California Mountains Foundation and California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Free guided wildflower walks at 10:30am and 12pm.

Gold Panning

Come learn how to pan for gold! Children will learn the process of gold panning, using real panning equipment. The "gold" is pyrite, and children can take home their findings along with an informational handout and a certificate! Fee: $3

Nature Walk

Join us for a 45 minute walk to learn about the local plant life, wildlife, and some very interesting historical facts. This is a great activity for families and individuals who want to gain a greater appreciation of our National Forest. Nature walks are not strenuous and designed for all levels of physical conditioning. Free!
