People need public land—and for 32 years, The Southern California Mountains Foundation has worked to protect it. Through conservation initiatives, innovative environmental education, and the operation of the largest discovery center and local corps serving the Inland Empire, we empower people to learn and protect the San Bernardino National Forest.

FIRE LOOKOUTS

Majestic views, solitude, and quiet, heroic vigilance—the fire lookouts of the San Bernardino National Forest capture a romantic part of California’s past. The Southern California Mountains Foundation proudly oversees the operations, preservation and ongoing maintenance at Butler Peak, Strawberry Peak, Morton Peak and Keller Peak.

DISCOVERY CENTER

The Big Bear Discovery Center is open but still in the process of a remodel. Stop by and be one of the more than 190,000 yearly visitors to enjoy weekly programs, eco-tours, and special events. Enjoy outdoor concerts, theater productions, and nighttime interpretive programs in the Big Bear Discovery Center Amphitheater.
